Our Next Energy (ONE) has secured $65 million in a funding round led by BMW i Ventures to scale up its electric vehicle business. The funds add to a $25 million Series A funding round in October that was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. ONE has signed contracts with four automakers and has a five-year, 25GWh energy storage pipeline. This equates to 300,000 electric vehicles, it said. It noted that the latest round of funding will help it begin the site selection process for its first US-based battery factory. It said it will also accelerate R&D in Michigan and San Francisco. In January, ONE created a proof-of-concept device with 732 miles of range. In another pilot, the company paired a Tesla Model S with an experimental battery...
Ford Motor will collaborate with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. in California to evaluate the bidirectional charging capabilities of the electric F-150 Lightning to power homes and return energy to the power grid. Ford CEO Jim Farley and PG&E CEO Patti Poppe announced the plans Thursday night at the CERAWeek energy conference in Texas. Bidirectional charging involves an EV’s ability to return energy to a home or the power grid, a reverse of the home and grid charging the vehicle. The EVs can charge at night when rates are low and potentially provide energy back to the grid during peak hours. That would allow customers to save money on their electricity bill and create less strain on the grid. Continue Reading @ CNBC
Congrats to @corradoborg for winning the first Ford Lightning Forum giveaway! The top 5 reasons for his purchase is: 1. MEGA POWER FRUNK! I love the idea of having a trunk on a pickup truck. No need for a tonneau cover. 2. Going Electric to save the world! I hate buying gas, but I need a truck. Until now, the latter has required the former. 3. It looks like an F-150, not some dystopian sci-fi conveyance, a bug-eyed sprite, or a Chevy Avalanche (I'm not a fan of the Cybertruck, Rivian, or GM EV trucks). 4. Buying American. My current pickup is a Toyota, and I'd rather my money be going to an American company heavily investing in EVs. 5. It'll be my first NEW vehicle ever! I have historically always bought used vehicles to let someone...

Take a look at these new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning prototypes undergoing high-elevation cold-weather testing in Boulder, Colorado. One of the trucks is towing a large tandem axle box trailer. As you can see in the images the Lightning with a trailer is using a weight-distribution-hitch (WDH), which means the truck is likely pulling a trailer that is loaded to over 5,000 lbs. Big thanks to Zack Whiting for sending us these images. This morning is the coldest February day on (123 years) record in Boulder, CO. The wind chill was -13F or colder this morning. The elevation of Boulder is just about 1-mile above sea level. All vehicles become less efficient in cold temperatures. Lots of extra heat is required to keep the cabin warm. Towing a...
